Smiths Detection receives $9.5 million Department of Defense contract for Improved Chemical Agent Monitor (icam) units
Highly effective, easy to use, handheld chemical warfare agent monitor
Edgewood, MD, 27 June 2006 - Smiths Detection, a world leading provider of chemical, biological and explosives detectors, and X-ray security screening equipment, today announced its Military unit has been awarded a delivery order for over 2,000 Improved Chemical Agent Monitor (ICAM) units. The contract from the US Department of Defense is valued at $9.5M.
ICAM is a hand held post attack device that provides a means of quickly locating the presence of nerve and blister agent contamination on personnel and equipment in both combat and homeland defense missions. The soldier-operated sensor is also used to confirm the absence of chemical threats in high-risk situations.

The ICAM is based on the highly successful Chemical Agent Monitor (CAM), developed by Smiths Detection. Over 70,000 CAM’s have been deployed worldwide including to recent conflicts.
